Video Installation screen 5: Adam Mintz
Text Panel
Hi! My name is Adam Mintz. I’m a Modern Orthodox rabbi in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
I’m a fourth-generation American Jew. All four of my great-grandparents came to the United States in the 1890s. I grew up in Washington, D.C., and I’ve lived in New York for the past 40 years.
I’d like to share a story that illustrates what it means to me to be Modern Orthodox in New York City. I study the weekly Torah portion with an advertising executive. We study every Friday, and one week he said to me:
“We need a kosher mint. And your name is Rabbi Mintz. Let’s create a Rabbi Mintz’s Classic Kosher Mints.” I thought it was an amazing idea and we created these Rabbi Mints. They’re delicious, they’re available, and most importantly, they’re kosher. And when you open up the cover, the wrapping says:
“Rabbi Mintz says it’s wonderful to perform a kind deed.”
That’s what it means to me to be Modern Orthodox in New York City.
