My name is Avi Navon, I’m a member of the Lahav kibbutz in the Negev, where I arrived 60 years ago from the Hashomer Hatzair movement.
To me Judaism is an entire world. It’s our history since Biblical times, it’s the hebrew language, both old and new. It’s culture and the holidays. In the kibbutz we celebrate holidays
in a secular spirit, Passover to us is both the exodus and the spring festival and holiday of liberty. And there’s the holiday of First Fruits, which is an agricultural ritual.
My grandfather was murdered in Poland for being a Jew. I’m named Avihu after him. I’m a Jew because I live, work and create in Israel. My friends and I raise our children and grandchildren in the spirit of Judaism, Zionism and secularism.
