Hi, my name is Simcha Dukhov.
I was born in Argentina in a Jewish family, and learned to play and read listening to stories about immigrants who came from Eastern Europe and formed a Jewish settlement. This aroused my curiosity, so as a follow up to my parents’ stories, I grew closer to that settlement, and discovered a music that echoed inside me in a way that was completely natural, as though it had always been there.
I aim to create original music, so I combine klezmer with street music such as cumbia, cuarteto and electronic music. I also combine different languages, such as Spanish, Yiddish and hebrew, as part of this identity.
There’s a song I wrote that goes:
“Happiness is not a duty”… Because when I create and recreate, I’m reinventing my tradition, and that’s my way of experiencing and enjoying Judaism.
