“Youth at the age of fourteen to eighteen are the future of our people”
– David Ben-Gurion

Youth movements played a pivotal role in the Zionist awakening. In the first half of the 20th century, they devoted their resources to encouraging young people to move to and settle in Palestine. Hashomer Hatzair, Gordonia and Dror were affiliated with the Zionist Labor movement; Betar was affiliated with the Revisionist Zionist movement; Bnei Akiva was affiliated with the religious Zionists; and Habonim and Young Judaea were founded in english-speaking countries – all of them contributed to the effort to boost immigration and settlement and to creating a new Jew.
