The involvement of Western superpowers in Muslim countries changed the condition of the Jews in those countries. The good relations Jews had with the superpowers compromised their relations with their non-Jewish neighbors. Jewish solidarity and religious tradition led to the growth of ideas that espoused the aspiration to return to Zion. Although those views did not generally gain widespread support, they became integral to the fabric of Jewish life in Arab countries.
