Traditional Jews observe select commandments and rituals out of a sense of devotion to their family, their community and the past. Accordingly, traditional Jews have no formal affiliation, but consider themselves a link in the chain of generations whose strength derives from adherence to past customs and beliefs, while at the same time adapting them to the present.
The commandments or customs that are observed by traditional Jews are for the most part ones which have family or communal importance. In recent years, some have tried to create a system of values and institutions that will enable traditional Jews to become a distinct social group.
