The October Revolution, also known as the Bolshevik Revolution, took place in Russia in 1917. The Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, overthrew the liberal government and seized power. As a result, czarist rule came to an end after 500 years.Following the October Revolution, a communist regime was instituted in Russia and subsequently throughout the entire Soviet Union, which remained in existence until 1991.
