Scientific advancements in the 16th to 18th centuries developed automation and improved agricultural and industrial production. European society underwent a change as agriculture increasingly gave way to industrial urbanism. Various innovations led to a substantial growth in the population, a longer life expectancy and better quality of life.
The products of the Industrial Revolution included new modes of transportation that conveyed people and goods from villages to cities and also within the cities – and from ports to other countries.
