Text: Memory By Way of Objects?

Text Panel

What function do religious artifacts serve in a person’s home? The purpose of having religious objects in the home is not only to worship God, but also to create a memory. They help Jews mark the milestones in the cycle of the year and convey the formative events in our history.
One could then say that religious objects, such as a Kiddush cup, Hanukkah menorah, Scroll of Esther or Passover haggadah, are a kind of visual reminder of the events which are associated with them. Even when they are not in use, their presence in the home is a reminder of what they represent.
