Text: Is there such a thing as Jewish Architecture?

Text Panel

There is no architectural tradition unique to Jews.
Never the less, the expectation is that synagogues be aesthetically impressive and physically imposing. Jewish law insists upon this although it provides few guidelines on how to meet these standards. As a result, communities built their synagogues according to their own resources, taste and the dictates of local authorities.
Today, as in the past, synagogues around the world are built with a wide range of artistic influences and styles. Synagogues are reflections of the culture and environment in which Jews have lived or continue to live.
