For many generations, complex and multifaceted philosophical thinking evolved among Jews. Jewish philosophers incorporated ideas that originated in the places where they lived and in the philosophies to which they were exposed, in addition to drawing from Jewish sources. They sought to utilize thinking and reasoning tools in order to explain the relationship between God and human beings, the role of faith in life, morality, and their own connection with society and culture. The transition to modernity ushered in secularization and made the ethical aspects of their worldview increasingly more important (namely, a greater focus on acceptable human behavior).
