Text: From Hora Agadati to Folk Dancing

Text Panel

Israeli folk dancing began to develop as early as the first wave of immigration to the country. Pioneers who came with the second wave of immigration danced the hora, polka and kazachok. In the 1920s, a local, original genre started to emerge. Baruch Agadati was one of the first to work in this field. Hora Agadati was his best-known contribution to the folk dances that evolved at the time.

The dance festivals held at Kibbutz Dalia in the 1940s also made a contribution to the development of Israeli folk dancing. The first course for folk dance instructors was instituted during that period. Many of the instructors passed on the folk dances they learned and created some of their own as well.
