Jewish art in the enlightenment period shifted the emphasis from decorating religious artifacts to unfettered art created by individual artists. Jews could now join guilds and art academies and integrate into the European art world. Works by most of the Jewish artists in the 19th century incorporated secular motifs as well as religious ones.
