Must Know

In 1896, a group of Jewish Civil War veterans formed an organization to promote patriotism among Jewish Americans and to provide support for those who had served in the war. First known as the hebrew Union Veterans and headquartered in New York City, the group had a small membership until the years following World War I, when Jewish soldiers returned from active duty. In 1929, the group became known as the Jewish War Veterans of America, and additional posts were established in cities beyond New York. Nowdays, The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) is the premier voice for Jewish uniformed service members and veterans in the United States. The JWV affirms that Jewish men and women serve honorably and heroically in the military forces of the United States of America during peacetime and war. The JWV defends the rights and benefits of all service members and veterans, fights anti-Semitism, and supports the State of Israel.
