Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, a granddaughter of the Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, was an accomplished composer and pianist. Her parents as well as her aunt, Sarah Levy, hosted well-known literary salons in their home in Berlin. Fanny later enhanced the family tradition and held concerts every Sunday. At first, these were private concerts, but over time they turned into semi-public events attended by hundreds of music lovers
