American television and radio host whose talk show, Larry King Live, was broadcast on CNN from 1985 to 2010. King, born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish orthodox parents, changed his name when he began working as broadcaster on a small radio station in Florida. King hosted television interview shows on a local station and in 1978 began to host the popular national late-night radio program, The Larry King Show, before stepping down in 1994. Simultaneously, his CNN show featured interviews with prominent figures, held live call-ins with anonymous viewers, and became known for his attentive and “softball” style.
