Canadian-born American architect, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. Born Frank Owen Goldberg in Toronto, grew up in Los Angeles, where he lives and works. His work, which is influenced by deconstructivism, exhibits a spectacular sculptural quality. His design for the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum in Spain, completed in 1997, is considered a landmark that changed the face of the city. Other important projects include New York by Gehry, New York; Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris, and the Dancing House in Prague. Designed the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem. Among his many awards are the Pulitzer Prize for Architecture (1989) and the American Presidential Medal of Freedom (2016).
