Al Hirschfeld (1903-2003) was born in Saint Louis, Missouri and grew up in New York City, where he discovered the world show business and established his reputation as an illustrator in the field. Figures ranging from Charlie Chaplin to Jerry Seinfeld, from Marilyn Monroe to Madonna – were all immortalized in his drawings, characterized by his unique minimalist line. His humoristic illustrations were published in dozens of magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times and The New Yorker, and were exhibited in many museums. Hirschfeld used to hide the name of his daughter, Nina, in all his illustrations. he wore an overall while working and considered himself a mechanic of kind who spends many hours working on his pieces.
