This translation into Mandarin, known also as the Chinese Union Version, is the most popular Chinese Bible. Completed in 1919, the translation was written by Protestants from various movement. Its distribution coincided with the adoption of Mandarin at schools, which contributed both to the dissemination of the Bible and of Christianity in China and to formalizing and enriching the Mandarin language.
