The Kennicott Bible
La Coruña, Spain, 1476
Original at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, UK
This manuscript contains the entire hebrew Bible together with Sefer Mikhlol by Rabbi David Kimchi (Radak, 1160-1235), a grammatical treatise on hebrew grammar. The harmony between the text and the illustrations and decorations indicates a collaboration between the scribe and the illustrator, who worked two decades before the Expulsion from Spain. Benjamin Kennicott, an english hebraist, acquired the manuscript for Oxford University in the second half of the 18th century, and it is named after him
