This installation presents the development of Jewish wisdom over the centuries: Tanach, Mishnah, Talmud, Geonim, Rishonim, Achronim. The floating books represent the integration of generations of Jewish sages. Stemming from one source – the Bible – comes forth a multifarious varied multitude. The upside-down pyramid illustrates the idea that each new generation saw itself the successor of the preceding generations and this provided the impetus to continue to create and reinvigorate Jewish halacha and thought each in the spirit of their time. The letters interspersed among the books represent the hebrew language used throughout Jewish history for writing halachic texts.
