French Algerian-born philosopher, a leading thinker of Postmodernism. Born in El Biar, Algeria, he moved to Paris in 1949. Derrida is the founder of the Deconstruction theory at the base of his revolutionary work – which aims to liberate texts from defined meaning by deconstructing and reconstructing them anew. This revolutionary method had crucial implications for continental philosophy and literary criticism, as well as postmodern culture, art and architecture. Derrida published many books and articles on various subjects and had a huge impact on culture and academic research in many fields. Among his important works are Of Grammatology, Writing and Difference, Dissemination and Margins of Philosophy and Voice and Phenomenon.
