Diorama: The Discovery of the Cairo Genizah, Mid-19th Century
Timeworn ceremonial objects and sacred manuscripts, together with certificates and documents written in hebrew characters, were stored in a repository in the attic of the Ben Ezra synagogue in Cairo’s old city. This valuable collection, spanning roughly 1,000 years of Jewish life, gives insight to the Jewish bookcase and the culture of Jews who lived in Egypt and around the Mediterranean Basin.
