Hanukkah menorahs of this type are named after the founder of the Hasidic movement, Baal Shem Tov (c. 1690-1760). According to tradition he would light the holiday candles in a similar menorah. They are made in filigree silverwork to form a grand seat holding small oil containers. The back of the menorah is decorated with a double-headed eagle and a crown.
