Text: What Is Jewish Prayer?

Text Panel

Prayer is a human need shared by us all.

Different cultures use prayer in different ways and situations. In Judaism, there are two main forms of prayer: individual prayer, where a lone person communicates with God, and communal prayer which is carried out by the entire congregation, with each individual prayer as part of the people of Israel.
Communal prayer replaced Temple sacrifice after the destruction of the Second Temple. Although the content and structure of communal prayer was influenced by the Temple service, a revolution had taken palce in how Jewish people worshipped God.
