The sets of laws by which the Jewish people must abide are a key component of the Bible. Some are meant to govern the relations between human beings and their Creator, while others govern the relations between individual and individual. The Ten Commandments – a set of laws which according to Jewish tradition were given on Mount Sinai – have over the generations been perceived as the body of laws underlying Western culture.
