More Info
Bohemia, a part of the Czech Republic and former Czechoslovakia, became famous for its colourful glass during the Renaissance. Since then the Cezch lands became the main producers of decorative glass, gaining international recognition especially during the Baroque era where glass was very commonly used in stained glass windows.
Bohemian crystal and glass workers discovered the resource, which is potash combined with chalk, in the country’s countryside. This type of glass is more clear and stable than Italian glass. Interestingly the glass does not contain lead and therefore is more versatile to work with. Additionally, unlike other glass-making techniques, Bohemian glass can be cut with a wheel. Bohemian glass can be hand-cut, engraved, blown and painted on.
