“Following the Emancipation, many Jews acquired both status and considerable property. But, at the same time, hatred towards them grew. Antisemitism is usually viewed as a phenomenon that began in the 19th century. Contrary to the traditional hatred of Jews whose roots were religious, antisemitism was of a racial nature based on prevalent pseudo-scientific theories. One of its more salient examples is The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which is a falsified document that was circulated in Europe and ‘exposed’ a conspiracy by Jewish leaders to take over the world.
