Diorama: Burning of Talmud in Paris 1242
Diorama: Burning of Talmud in Paris 1242 In the 13th century, a Jewish convert to Christianity told the authorities that the Talmud advocates hatred of non-Jews. Consequently the Talmud was put on public trial in Paris before the King of France and members of the clergy. Four Jewish scholars, headed by Rabbi Yehiel of Paris, represented and defended the Talmud. Their arguments were rejected and 24 carriage-loads of Talmud manuscripts were set on fire in the city square.
