An acclaimed and decorated Israeli conductor and pianist. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he made Aliyah in 1952. He learned the piano from his parents as a child and studied conducting in Salzburg and composition in Paris before he was 13, subsequently performing worldwide. He made his conducting public debut in 1962 and conducted many orchestras worldwide. Barenboim served as musical director of L’Orchestre de Paris from 1975-1989 and subsequently simultaneously directed the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1991-2006 and the Berlin Staatsoper from 1992-2002. In 2011, he was appointed as La Scala Music Director in Milan. Throughout his conducting career, he continued to perform as a pianist and produce concerts and other musical events.
