The Haredi Mizrahim seek to “restore the crown to its former glory” by reviving the traditions of their forebears in Muslim countries. The Babylonian Talmud is the major work that they study, although the emphasis is highly practical as they aim to reach halakhic rulings rather than engage in theoretical discourse. Along with the yeshivas that focus solely on learning Talmud, there are others which engage in studying kabbalah and other esoteric works. Two ideal types emerge from these yeshivas: the rabbinic decisor and the kabbalist.
