Itzhak Perlman

American-Israeli conductor, violinist, and one the most popular musicians in the world. Born in Tel Aviv, he began playing music at age 3. When he was 4, Perlman contracted polio and was left paralyzed in both of his legs. In 1958, he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and stayed in New York to study at the Juilliard School. During the 60s and 70s, Perlman performed in many concerts in Europe and the U.S., winning many awards and adding Jewish folk music to his rich repertoire. In 1987, he played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Europe and in the Soviet Union in 1990. In his later career, Perlman has conducted many American orchestras.
